Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training BoardThe Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board’s main function is to advise the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology on labour market issues that relate to training and certification of people in designated trades and occupations.

The Board consists of a chair, eight members who represent trades, and four members who represent other industries. The twelve members represent employers and employees in equal numbers. (see Members of the Board)

Members of the Board are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister for a term of up to three years, and may serve no more than two terms.

The Board members must be knowledgeable about the needs of the Alberta labour market, and the training and certification of people in the trades and occupations.

When advising the Minister, the Board draws on the expertise of various committees – especially the Local and Provincial Apprenticeship Committees and the Occupational Committees. (see Industry Committees)
