Individual Learning Modules Initiative
Alberta Advanced Education and Technology and the Apprenticeship training providers in Alberta are developing modularized learning materials. These modules are intended to improve flexibility in the delivery and presentation of apprenticeship training courses. These are full content modules based on the Alberta Apprenticeship course outline.
Purpose:
The Individual Learning Modules will provide the students with high quality learning material that will be used by every trainer across the province. The modules are all developed on the validated competencies that make up Alberta Apprenticeship training. To achieve flexibility of delivery in apprenticeship training, the training providers are encouraged to adopt alternate delivery strategies (distance delivery, day release, on-site delivery etc.) using the modules.
Description:
- Each module is based on a competency drawn from the validated course outline.
- The modules have an average of 5 objectives and 50 pages.
- Each objective represents approximately one hour of classroom instruction.
- The modules are very visual with an average of one graphic per page.
- The modules are written in a style that makes them inviting to read.
- Every module contains a self-test and the self-test answers.
Development Process:
- Instructional staffs, from training providers across Alberta, write the modules.
- All modules are based on a validated apprenticeship course outline.
- An expert from the trade edits module content. A text editor edits the grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Photographers and graphic artists create all graphics.
- All modules are subjected to a peer review cycle.
- At least once every year the modules will be updated and maintained by a panel of instructors.
- All of the graphics that appear in the module are available (in colour where appropriate) to the instructors as an MS Power Point presentation.
