What do the Bear Paws mean? The Aboriginal section of the Tradesecrets website is distinguished visually with the stylized Bear Paw symbol. We intend the Bear Paw symbol to represent the steps taken during a career journey.
We are committed to enhancing Aboriginal participation in the trades. We believe increased awareness and understanding about apprenticeship programs and the trades as a sound career choice is essential.
The current and projected shortage of skilled tradespeople will be a significant source of employment for Aboriginal people.
The completion of an apprenticeship program will equip Aboriginal people with skills that are in high demand, give them access to good paying jobs and contribute to the overall economic well being of Aboriginal communities.
Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training's Enhancing Aboriginal Participation in the Trades Communication Initiative will provide Aboriginal people with the information necessary to help them consider the trades as a career choice.
Deciding what to do after high school can be hard for many students. With so many career choices, it's never too soon for students of any age to know their options.
As a parent or educator, you can expose young aboriginal people to a variety of options, including the trades. The Step into the Trades series of brochures was developed as part of the Enhancing Aboriginal Participation in the Trades Communication Initiative. It is intended to be used as part of a presentation to aboriginal students interested in apprenticeship training in Alberta.
